Pilgrims Hospices host a number of events throughout the year to raise money to continue providing excellent care to patients and support for their families.
Their famous “It’s a Knockout” event is back and promises to be bigger than ever with stalls, refreshments and attractions for the whole family. Friends and family can watch as teams compete to be crowned ‘Knockout Champions’
Direction Law will be entering a team of 10 to participate in their “It’s a Knockout” event on Sunday 9th July. Teams get to dress up in inflatable costumes, dive into bubble pits and swoosh down the slippery slides.
It’s a great fun day out for the family and the money raised goes to a very worthwhile cause – so, even if you are not participating, you can always come along to watch and support us!
Direction Law is delighted to sponsor Simon Torry who is participating in the Great North Swim on the 11th of June to raise funds to support the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND). This is a 5K swim in chilly Lake Windermere.
This time last year, Simon’s youngest sister was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. This terrible illness currently has no cure and is fatal in almost every case.
Because of the close family connection Simon has chosen the MND Association as the charity he will support this year. He and members of his team will be taking part in various other activities in support of this charity.

On the 23rd May 2017 Direction Law Partner Wayne More-Read and friend Patrick Bourke began their ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of Brain Cancer Research and the Meniere’s Research Fund.
They rode unsupported and were self-funded with the aim of completing the 1000 mile ride in 12 days. They purchased their first road bikes in September, having never owned one before so now equipped with all the necessary gear, they set off full of hope but with no real idea of the challenge they had set themselves. Training had been hampered by broken wrists (Wayne), torn ligaments (Wayne again..) and general time issues. Let there be no doubt, this became a test of their determination, and of their ability to withstand and suffer pain… lots of it.
Their determination and suffering paid off and on 3rd June 2017 they proudly arrived at John O’Groats.
Wayne and Patrick would like to thank all the donors that supported their heroic efforts by donating £2,855.00 towards their chosen charities, far exceeding their target of £2,000.00.
Our New Business Officer, Scott Walker trained hard for many weeks in order to enter the London Marathon in aid if Diabetes UK. As well as enduring the pain and showing the true grit that every well-honed athlete (and Scott) must possess, training also involved a controversy when he was charged 50p for tap water after entering a pub for refreshment at the end of a 20-mile training session. It has been reported that a man behind the bar told Scott ‘I don’t care how far you have run, that won’t pay for my water bill’ when he asked for a glass of tap water.
Fortunately Scott is made of stern stuff and was not put off by this, nor was his gruelling training interrupted for long when he was run over by a car a few days later. Despite sore ribs and muscles Scott restarted his training and went on to raise £2,278.00 for Diabetes UK and completed the marathon in an impressive 5 hours 20mins.
Scott says thank you to all who donated to Diabetes UK..
