Direction Law traces its roots back to 1976 when Brian Sharratt, the father of one of our current partners, left a large Kent based practice to set up his own law firm as a sole practitioner in the Kent seaside town of Whitstable. Since that time the firm has grown to its present size, now comprising 9 partners and a total staff of around 150.
The firm first opened an office in the historic city of Canterbury in 1993 and moved to the current premises in 1997. This is now our South East Office and is our head office and the firm’s Registered Office. We opened in London’s West End in 2004, moving to our current location in 2013 and our South West Office was opened in Wells High Street in 2015.
Our practice areas
Direction Law started out as a local practice providing conveyancing and other services to clients mainly based in its local area. Indeed we still have a strong local client base of both private individuals and businesses to whom we provide a range of services such as residential and commercial conveyancing, wills and probate.
In the late 1980s when shared ownership was first emerging as a new tenure, the firm soon developed a specialism in the provision of legal services to housing associations. Direction Law is now well known and highly respected within the affordable housing sector, acting for both housing providers and those who are buying from them.
Direction Law is now perhaps better known for its large and expanding newbuild department. We have a team specialising in newbuild shared ownership and one which acts for those buying newbuild properties from private developers, the latter having particular expertise in dealing with cases involving the Government’s Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme.
We also specialise in providing commercial and other legal services to the healthcare sector, counting many pharmacies, GP surgeries and dental practices as our clients. This work is undertaken through a separate trading name of “Healthcare Law” which is based in our London office.
What we do, we do well
Direction Law does not aim to be “all things to all men”. We operate within a limited number of sectors, deal with a restricted range of practice areas and will not dabble in areas of law with which we are unfamiliar. If therefore you instruct Direction Law in respect of any of the areas of work mentioned on this website you can rest assured that your work will be carried out either by a lawyer or by a team of people who specialise in what they do.
